Background Information
Houghton was founded in 1836 by a syndicate of British Army Officers and name after the most senior of the three – Lieutenant Colonel Richmond Houghton. Houghton has built an enviable reputation shaping the Western Australian winemaking landscape. The Houghton Stripe range epitomises the flavoursome, vibrant style of Houghton.
Winemaker’s Notes
The fruit was machine harvested in the cool of night to retain flavour and freshness. Fermented in static fermenters for ten days the wine was gently pressed off skins, to complete alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tank. The wine was then racked and inoculated for malolactic fermentation. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine spent 10 months maturation in oak before select parcels were blended and prepared for bottling.
Tasting Notes
The 2020 Houghton Stripe Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent example of Western Australian Cabernet displaying typical leafy, blackcurrant, dark red fruits, and a touch of oak derived spice.
